I found a glorious and super nice majestic mount.  The fates took him away.  We can't get him through the door.  I really wanted to keep him.  Tear shed for lost Turtle Dragon.  Damn!

We must continue onward.  Vegenance for the Children!

Session 43 (POV Valkomen) The Plan Is Going To Work!

The players:

Sir Thornston Snow (Hedge Knight)
Valkomen Gimilzor (Paladin of House Branch)
Nachtheim of Blancshale (Student of Magic)
St Bede (Cleric of the Old Gods)
Fritjof (The Locksmith)
Karr Bidebit (Dwarf Dwarf)

Very excited that my hastily formed plan does seem to be working.  However I'm a bit upset in that it appears St. Bede has passed me in near death experiences.  I just can't let this stand.

How this happened.  We where down in the dungeon and unable to find a way forward.  St Bede needed to get outside and get some fresh air.  Plus the remaining rations were in the stable.  St Bede eats a lot of food.  All that praying must make him hungry.

Stretching and taking a look around the grounds of the keep we found another of Fritjof's Sewer Entrances.  Sir Thornston and St Bede were of like mind in thinking it led to a unexplored part of the dungeon.  However it might be days before Fritjof is any condition to go down there and explore.  Sir Thornston and I can't fit down that skinny pipe.

I suggested we have another whole tower and several low buildings to explore of the Keep.  We should go and do something.  Sir Thornston was game however St Bede was reluctant. He was still recovering from the huge battle in the dungeon.  Without Fritjof to open the doors we had to tie ropes and yank them open.  This is very time consuming.

The three of us entered the lower level of the unexplored tower.  However no encounters.  Although recent signs of a fire in the fireplace.  Someone has been in here.  We decide to go up to the next level.  No sooner do we make our way up and then we here a argument upstairs.  It is in Xaxian.   They talk about loot and not wanting to pay a tax to her.

Joy of joys my comrades are up for going up the stairs to do battle.  However they wanted to try sneaking up on the Xaxians.  Luckily I was able to convince them that the three of us could never sneak up on anyone.  We rushed up the stairs.  I think that in running up the stairs I might have broken loose a stair.  For Sir Thornston Snow slipped on the stairs.  St Bede was able to catch him.  However he dropped my lantern he was carrying.

Bursting out onto the 3rd Floor of the Tower I immediately see two of the biggest Xaxians I have ever seen.  There was also a tiny goblin.  Three in all and a fair fight.  With the Gods on our side we should be able to win.

Sir Thornston Snow made it to the top with the assistance of St. Bede.  Sir Thornston was then immediately cut down.  St. Bede drew his sword ( Clerics using swords) and was cut down.  I made a few attacks against the biggest of the Xaxians.  A magnificent fighter.  Never have I encountered such defense before.  I quickly made a tactical decision to attack the other two.  If I could reduce the number to 1 on 1 I could probably take him.  One blow apiece I was able to cut the other two down.

I traded several more blows with the Great Xaxian Fighter.  However I was unable to even scratch him.  Full knowing Xaxian's love of dirty fighting I tried to parley with him.  Hoping he would try something and this would give me a chance to get a blow in.  Sure enough he tried something.  To counter so did I.  Neither of us did any damage to the other.  However he changed tactics and now came at me in a attempt to knock me out.

In a sudden inspiration I recalled what Sir Thornston had said on the stairs.  He said something about Xaxian's would want to capture us alive.  So as the Xaxian prepared another pommel attack I stepped into it.  Letting him knock me out cold.

Now things are going to plan.  The Xaxian tended to our wounds and has us tied up.  We are alive and hopefully to be brought to her.  No more wandering around lost and having to kick in every door.  We will be brought straight to her.   Why didn't I think of this plan earlier?

They get to the top and behold 2 giant men in platemail and one goblin.

Session 42 - (POV Valkomen) How Many Lives Does A Saint Have?

Somewhere in the Dungeon

The players:

Sir Thornston Snow (Hedge Knight)
Valkomen Gimilzor (Paladin of House Branch)
Nachtheim of Blancshale (Student of Magic)
Friar Bede (Cleric of the Old Gods)
Fritjof (The Locksmith)
Karr Bidebit (Dwarf Dwarf)

Just like that everybody in the party is Super Heroic.  Our Great Saint Bede is trying to pass me up for most Near Death Experiences.  I think we are tied now?  Even Nachtheim risked his life foolishly.
It must be something in the Dungeon Air?  Our Dwarf Dwarf Karr is a berserker.  He really does not like skeletons.  I had a long grueling battle with one of the enemy leaders.

I still do not understand the fascination and lust for gem stones.  We found some and the others went nuts for the rocks.  Okay they are pretty stones, but there are more important things to consider right now.   I had to put a end to their fiddling around with that chest we found.  Mr. Fritjof nearly killed himself and the priest playing around with something inside the chest.  Seeing the results of the poison gas cloud that issued out of the chest.  I picked it up and carried it outside.

Good thing I brought my lantern as the next room had no lighting and was full of undead.  It is very hard to fight them in complete darkness.   It was this epic battle that my companions displayed their Heroic Actions.

We live and are closer to revenge against her.

Session 41 - (POV Valkomen) After all that the horses walked across the bridge just fine!

Session 41 - (POV Valkomen)

The players:

Sir Thornston Snow (Hedge Knight)
Valkomen Gimilzor (Paladin of House Branch)
Nachtheim of Blancshale (Student of Magic)
St Bedici (Cleric of the Old Gods)
Fritjof (The Locksmith)
Karr Bidebit (Dwarf Dwarf)

After hours of scouting, debating, and a massive battle in the now collapsed tower.  Well the horses were able to just walk across the bridge.  My magnificent war steed is safely in the stables eating hay.  I hope he still is.  Suddenly our Great Locksmith Fritjof is able to open every lock he sees.  He was even able to disable the Killer Statue that nearly ended my life.  Mr. Fritjof even found a very useful bit of correspondence from the Enemy.  The letter err note has proved to be of great use as we used it to find a way into the dungeon of the Keep.

The enemy is nice enough to provide a great many lit torches.  Almost as if we are invited down.  It was not very long before Sir Thornston set off a mechanical trap.  I was lucky to get out of the way.  He is alive it was just a flesh wound.  Shortly after that we met some men with huge eyes and clawed hands.  Finally get to work my sword.  I dispatched one but not before Sir Thornston and Karr the Dwarf Dwarf had been paralyzed by the monsters.  The other monster was destroyed by Nachtheim using the Black Iron Crown's Magic.

The use of the Black Iron Crown is most interesting as I had last seen it in possession of St. Bedici our Cleric.  Of course I was unconscious for awhile from the Killer Statue Incident. They may have made a trade or something?

It appears we are taking another break or something.  This passageway is apparently at a end.  There is another passageway we have not tried yet.  I have great hope.  She is down here.  The Old Gods will grant me a chance for Revenge!

Session 39 - (Valkomen Gimilzor POV) - No Paladin Don't Open That Door!

Session 39 - No Paladin Don't Open That Door!

The Players

Sir Thornston Snow (Hedge Knight)
Valkomen Gimilzor (Paladin of House Branch)
Nachtheim of Blancshale (Student of Magic)
Saint Bede (Cleric of the Old Gods Most Holy Man Alive)
Fritjof (The locksmith)
Karr Bidebit (Dwarf Dwarf)

To be honest I was getting bored with this mission.  Only bandits, dragons, and spiders to fight.  Then Fritjof the Superb Locksmith came to me bearing Great News!  A great and terrible demon was beyond the door to the next room.  Half intrigued I got close to the door and used my blessed powers granted by the Trees to detect a Horrible Fiend inside that room!

Immediately and to the great dismay of my comrades I opened the door and stepped inside.  My comrades may jest at my readiness to cross swords with foul evil creatures.  However once the battle starts they do very well indeed.  This foul creature was very mighty and I took a wound and felt the dark touch drain my life and soul.  However we beat it.  We are still alive and therefore stronger.

The Demon had a treasure in the room.  I took a handful of silver.  Now I have some to give to our Great Saint when he ask. Disappointed the beast sword was not a type I could use.  Our Saint took it though.  Seems very attached to it and the demons crown.  No worries.  This whole episode fills me with vigor.  We are close to Jezzer and righteous revenge for the slain children.

Session 38 (A foiled magical assassination)

So we(the locksmith--wink, wink-- and I) arrived at the dilapidated bridge, and the winged statues took to flight.  Valkomen, the enemy arrow holder, wandered off into the swamp.  He was investigating some old rags.  Snow, smarter than he looks or sounds, warned that it looked like a trap, and that is when the pincushion found the water lizard.  They did not need my help to bring the lizard down.

Meanwhile, the locksmith, who I thought was a trig thief, couldn't figure out the lock and started talking nonsense about floating across the moat in empty barrels.

Snow was wasting time looking for wood to reinforce the perfectly safe bridge.  I mean, I crossed it just fine.

The locksmith proved to be underwhelming, and we had to find another way into the keep.

As we prepared to cross at the ruined tower, one of my trusted companions revealed themselves to be a magical assassin.  In the heat of battle with the winged statue people, the trig bastard charmed my dagger to strike me.  If I had not regained control at the last second, I would be dead.

It was too advanced of a plan for charge first, ask questions later.  The little guy is, well, just little, and I don't see it.  Snow is a possibility.  He may have been angry about the bridge.  Perhaps it was the locksmith, and he is as trig as I thought--- just not a locksmith at all.  The friar and his old gods may be plotting against me.

It seems my old enemies have found me, or as was the case with my mentor, one of these companions has grown jealous of my abilities.  In either case, I must keep a clear head and a vigilant eye.

Evil is everywhere.

Session 38 (St. Bedici) - Gargoyled!

It was whilst the boredom of waiting upon that priggish burglar that the holy ghost moved within the corrupt paladin and myself. But him first, my hand to the old gods!

He stumbled out into the muck as a drunken sailor on shore leave to fetch a sheepskin perhaps spent or not... and was promptly nearly eaten alive in one gooble by the largest swamp dragon we've ever seen. Crackles erupted fore and aft. But I dismounted in turn with the dwarvish dwarf in lock step with that airy hedge, and the battle began. Somehow it was my Flail I'm sure that slay the beast! And while the paladin dragged his next dine ashore I laid my hands on myself and him! Glory!

And just in time for the fair burglar and fey magician squealed from afar about a bridge not worth taking or not taking afore testing or some nonsense and the commotion was great, ere I led my ass to be tied soundly as to not buck or bray at the fuss.

Refusing historically sound water travel by barrel, in meantime, a log had been lain and  like lazy lumberjacks played crossing games. In twos they straddled the topsy turvy pole and made landfall beyond at the obvious door.

Twas then sight became sound and those peering Gargoyles gave flight and strafed at the earth beneath us! A sanctuary surrounded me at once and I stand ready for their returns.

Session 37 (Bede) - Sore Thumbs

Assuming that the three separate groups of robbers that have plagued our merry band at each furlong had a retreating warning scout, our gallivant is widely known, most likely all the way to the keep itself. None of our nightly discomforts were necessary, the hard ground and pounding rain have only soured our resolve, possibly even the paladin's sanity.

But no matter now, the deed is done and here we are, wet, tired, and wounded, with no silver to show for it. And the hedge knight's discovery of the spidery monogram bodes ill (for some) indeed. This slippery magician has the right idea, I too will lean back and watch fate unfold before us.

On the road to "the old keep" from two harbors

After defeating the hill tribesmen the gathers themselves to move forward.

The group "takes care" of the bandits / tribemen and move forward.

One hour in the group comes across another ambush.

Valkomen charges and falls. Thornston unleashes a volley of arrows to hold them back.

Further up the road Thornston sees this symbol carved in the road.

Near the keep, and with Valkomen unconscious the only alternative is to camp overnight. They find a dry spot at the south end of the wetlands.
It is a cheerless night, they do not dare light a fire. Three watches are arranged. The night goes by fairly uneventful except for a harmless snake, a hungry bear, and some lantern lights that are dismissed as an illusion over the bog waters.

The next morning the adventures head out to the destination of the Old Keep through the wetlands. Not far into the washed out road they are attacked by Sleestaks. Nachtheim saves the day with a sleep spell and Fritjof  wants to see if they taste like chicken.

Fritjof  scouts ahead and sees the ruins. He thinks they are being watched by some gargoyles perched up on one of the ruined towers.

On the road

It would appear as if we have all gathered and are ready to move on.  It suits us well; We have stayed too long in this place. The fool Snow lost a fight to a prancing clown with a toothpick.  It serves Sir this and Sir that right; pride in one’s station will lead to a fall.

I must worry about the pirate and the pike.  Who is is this witch in the woods?  No one  knew the answer.

The friar is a reticent one.  He pocketed Mr. Holy’s coin and offered those prayers to the tree in his mind.  Not an unproven method, but lacking imagination and flair.  We will have to observe the good friar and his good deeds.

As for Mr. Holy and his showy armor, and his showy horse, let the fool give his coin to save his soul.  We know that we are all just the imagined thoughts of some absent jester signifying nothing.  Mr Holy is the least of our concerns.  I must keep an eye on the road and be sure they do not follow us.

We waste our time at the tree with a crude cupboard carved in it and the “scary black candles.”  Mr. Holy wants to waste even more time fishing.  Yet more evidence of a simple mind.

Yes, I agree, the locksmith and the mini dwarf are trig and very dangerous.  The mini dwarf turning away in mid-charge, as if he couldn’t ride down those brigands; very trig.

The locksmith and his "oops the wagon ran over my foot,” and that foolishness about the pike.  He is nasty.   “Oh, let me give my offering.” Blah, blah, blah.

They both are likely servants of the Dark Hand.  What den of vipers have we fallen in with?

I was too busy looking for them behind us on the road that we almost missed the trap.  Sir this and Mr. Holy go charging towards the fallen tree and the viking hat, and the trig mini dwarf charges his pony towards the brigands in the bush.  I laud his performance as he jerked that pony around and charged back. And the locksmith pretending he couldn’t use that sling.  Ha, do they take us for a paranoid fool?

Who put them all to bed?

Make sure I watch the road.

Session 36 Hounds Tooth Inn ---An impatient traveler---

Perched on a chair, Nachtheim, looks around the inn, pulling on greasy strands of his hair.  After a few moments, he rises for the countless time, his sweat and dirt stained robes touching the floor.  The color of the robes faded long ago.  He walks across the room towards the window, stepping between several groups of patrons without offering a word.  He stares out the window, turns, surveys the room once again, and walks back with little regard for others in his path.

“How much more time will we waste before we leave?”

Session 36 - At the sign of The Hounds tooth

The players:

Sir Thornston Snow (Hedge Knight)
Valkomen Gimilzor (Paladin of House Branch)
Nachtheim of Blancshale (Student of Magic)
Friar Bede (Cleric of the Old Gods)
Fritjof (The locksmith)
Karr Bidebit (Dwarf Dwarf)

Setting:
June 15, 997 Third Age
Summer

Port City of Blue Harbors

It is one year after the terrible events at the rune tower. A time of prosperity is upon the north as a false winter came and went. The scholars tell that a false winter is a sign of joyous bounty and others warn of a coming storm that will lay darkness across the land for hundreds of years.

The adventure begins at the port town of Blue Harbors. Lord Theon Branch has commissioned your group to check out an old abandoned keep called "The Old Keep". Local rumors say that this keep is the base for a group of bandits others fear a greater evil that waits.

Our adventurers are eating dinner at the warm and famous in: The Hounds Tooth

The Hounds tooth
On Hartspool Avenue, near the bell tower. The street outside is paved with decorative flagstones.
The inn is a two-storey stone-walled building, with a slate roof and a large cellar. A collection of fine tapestries hangs on the walls. Accommodations consist of several large rooms with beds and feather mattresses.
The special for this evening is: Pickled Shellfish and Bitter Cheese with Tankard of Beer
Accommodations: Bath, Breakfast and Dinner and a soft bed. 10 SP
The innkeeper is a young male dwarf named Bossk

Let the adventure begin

"The meal is flavorful and the beer is wet", says the dwarf!

The group hear all kinds of rumors from the local madman:
A pike that roams the river up and down granting wishes to the locals.
The Nubian witch of the forest.
Foreign bandits looting and pillaging.

And, many many more.

Our group heads out the next morning, June 16. It is an overcast day.

Instantly, Fritjof gets his foot ran over by a horse cart. That hurt.

Thorston Snow is challenged to a duel by the local drunk. He loses to the disgust of the crowd.

On the road to the Old Keep, the following encounters happen:

Shrine to a Nature God and the healing of the tainted tree.

Wagon Wheel. Half buried in the dirt.

5 Tribesmen ambush the group.
