Magi (The Knights of the Mind)
Located in the Walled City of Taropost, the Order is the ruling body of the city with its own military, city guard, and rules, governed by a council of 12 Arch-Magi each masters of a particular discipline. The Tower of Learning has a grand library which holds some of the most ancient books in the realm.
Each Castle is assigned a Magi (called the Seneschal) who is assigned by the Order of the Magi. Each Seneschal is bound to that castle (regardless of the lord) for life.
Students who go to school can follow several paths. Clerical, Magic-User, Healer, Druid. Some of the harder disciplines call for the individual to be there for decades.
They are trained in various arts including: They include history, healing, herblore, the speech of ravens, the building of castles, navigating by the stars, the measurement of days and the marking of seasons, Accounting, Religion, castle defense, literary works, writing, and schooling.
Ranks within the Order:
Each member is identified by a pin that is made of various metals as you move up in rank.
Apprentices/Acolytes: Clay pin with a small crystal
Sages: Copper pin with a crystal
Seneschal (assigned to a castle/keep): Iron pin and crystal
Masters: A silver pin with a crystal
Arch-Magi: A mithreal pin with a crystal
Poisons: Identification and treating of poisons is also practiced. The chance (with the proper equipment is as the table below.
Weapons/HP/XP/Proficiencies: as a M-U
Lore: This is a bonus to intelligence checks when identifying objects, history, or making any d6 check that goes against intelligence. This ability is the result of reading through long dusty tomes that contain obscure knowledge.
Common Healing Herbs
Adder’s Tongue: Serpent’s Tongue. Erythronium americanum. Part used: stalk and flower. To quickly cure a wound, soak whole herb in water and apply as a wet poultice. Bury when cured, or the wound will return.
Aloe: Burn Plant. Aloe vera or A. spp. Part used: fresh leaves. The leaf sap applied to a cut or burn speeds healing.
Balm, Lemon: Melissa. Melissa officianalis. Part used: fresh sprig of leaves and flowers. It you’ve receive a sword wound, attach a fresh sprig of lemon balm to the hilt of the weapon that pierced you, and your wound will heal.
Blackberry: Bramble. Rubus villosus. Part used: Fresh Leaves. Nine fresh blackberry leaves, soaked in water from a natural spring and placed on a burn will speed healing.
Burdock: Beggar’s Buttons. Arctium lappa. Part used: fresh rootstock. Place a slice of fresh burdock root on a cut or scratch to speed healing.
Chrysanthemum: Mum. Chrysanthemum spp. Part used: flowers. Boil the flowers in water and drink to against drunkenness, hang-overs, etc.
Cucumber: Cucumis sativus. Part used: fruit. Fresh cucumber juice is a very mild healing potion.
Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus globulus. Part used: fresh leaves, stems. Hang over the bed of one who is ill to speed healing.
Gardenia: Gardenia spp. Part used: fresh flowers. Place next to a sick bed to speed the healing of the ill.
Hyacinth: Hyacinthus orientalis. Part used: fresh flowers. To cure someone who is under the influence of a glamoury have him or her smell a fresh hyacinth bloom.
